ST. LEGER WINNER
SINGAPORE COST HIS OWNER
12,500 GUINEAS
Singapore, winner of the St. Leger Stakes at Doncaster last Wednesday, forms tha subject of the following excerpt from an overseas paper:—
"At the Doncaster September sales Lord Glanely, who; is very hard to stop when he fancies anything in the way of horseflesh, went to 12,500 guineas to secure an unnamed bay. colt by. Gainsborough out of Tetrabazzia, sent up from Sir Alec Black's Coinpton Stud. In due course the youngster was christened Singapore, and last year—an exceptionally lean one for T. Hogg's stable—he was not saddled for a race.
"From the Oaks onwards T. Hogg turned out a large number of winners for Lord Glanely, and among them was Singapore, who, going out favourite, won the £1000 Sandringhaui Foal Plate at Sandown Park on 27th June. Singapore did not have a great lot to beat, but he won so well that, if be continues to progress, he is to be allowed to take his chance for the St. Leger.
"By Gainsborough, Singapore is out of Tetrabazzia, a mare by The Tetrarch out of Abazzia, a half-sister to our old-time champion, Greatorex, by Isinglass out of Mrs. Butterwick, by St. Simon, a truly noble line of blood. Singapore is a halfbrother to Sledmere, who is by Lemonora."
