CANTERBURY TOUR
DEFEAT AT INVERCARGILL
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
INVERCAKGILL, 17th September
The-representative. .Rugby match between Canterbury and Southland was played here to-day, and resulted in a win fo:- Southland by 24 points to 12.
The weather was fine and sunny, but there was a wind from the south-west. The ground was holding after rain last night. '' \ ' Southland were undoubtedly, the better team, and showed a vast improvement on their form against Wellington. The game was full of exciting incidents, nnd scores came at fairly regular intervals throughout. Both teams fielded heavy, packs of forwards, but in the serums neither pack had any pronounced advantage. In the second spell the visitors repeatedly opened up the play, but their passing was of a haphazard nattire, and mistakes at times proved costly. Southland were more than a match for Canterbury iv the loose, and made better use of their opportunities.
