REFORM PARTY

ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Tho annual conference of the-.Reform Party was opened in Wellington yesterday. There was an attendance of about 200 delegates from all parts of I lie Dominion.

The Right Hon. J. 0. Coatcs, ivlio presided, said that if an election look place 10-morrow the parly was well equipped for action. Ho reviewed the work of ■the party during the past year in Parliament, and asserted that (ho Parliamentary machine was particularly inefficient at present. There was a Government in power which took no responsibility, which was not strong euougii to standby its decisions, and depended on the support of the Labour Party. The .Reform Party was opposed to the present Government's policies in connection with borrowing, railway control, purchase of private estates at. inflated prices, sustenance pay, incidence of taxation, and other matters. Mr. Ccates stated some general points of policy for the guidance, and information of the party's supporters.

To-morrow the dolegates to the conference will attend tho unveiling of the Massey Memorial at Point Halswoll.
