To See Horses Race. Mr. C. Boyle, owner of Conjurer 11., Rational 11., and Rasouli, who are now at Caulfield, intends, to, leave, for Australia next week- to witness the performances of his horses at the ; big Victorian meetings next, month and in November. Mr. Boyle is particularly hopeful of success with. ":. Conjurer 11., who has worked and pel-formed attractively. since his arrival. After Fletningto'n, the full-brother to doughty. Poitrel will be returned, 'to the Dominion with Rasouli: and Rational' 11., aiid.it is his owner's hone. :to'.produce, him here 'among; 'the. steeplechasers' winter. ". ■', " ."■■' ' '.'..' • '.'.-,' ■'' ■' More for Sydney. Five horses owned' by the Auckland sportsman,' Mr.' Wenzl..Scholium, are due to leave for Sydney 'on Friday. . They are the Takanini-trained pair, Shine On aiid Little* Gift, and three '. from Fulcekbhe—Manx Cat, Eahakura, and a two-year-old. ,W. Goscombe, private trainer to Mr. Scholium,' will hot be making the trip with the team, but. will supervise the preparations of Topstar, Bugle Call, White Wings, Trustee, anil St. Ames. It is understood that trainer H. Doyle (who took Tea Time to Australia .a few months back) will take the horses over for Mr. Scholium, who will, follow. Idtdr: Mr. Scholium has raced horses in ■ Sydney previously, and won the Suburban Handicap, one mile, with True. Blood,■ at the A.J.C. Spring Meeting in 1927.' .' ■ Not Being Hurried. .:...■ ■ The Takanini. trainer, C. Morse, has a great opinion of Amber i Link and Brazanna. two good-lo.oking two-year-olds in his charge'at present. They are carrying very healthy •appearances;'but are not being bustled .in their preparation, and will not sport silk until later in the season. Amber Link is related to Silverlink '(dam 'bf .Silvermine) through her dam, Secret Link, whilevßrazanna is Aus-tralian-bred) - being by ?■• Brazcu-Manna. Morse also has a. beautifully topped, unraced three-year-old. This fellow has been named Catchem, and if appearances go for anything he should not belie his name. He is by Catmint from Miss Melva, and is owned by Mr. H. R. Burrett. Winners at WanganuL Following is the list of owners who shared in the distribution of the stakemoney offered at the Wnngamii Jockey Club's Spring Meeting last week:—Mr. A. B. Williams. £580; Mr. T. Few hacks at Ellerslie are doing belter than Catoma, who. was: responsible for- a pleasing' effort when. he' won • the Sylvia Park Handicap at the Pakuranga .Meeting. Although this gelding is not a .good track worker, he has recorded several sound gallops recently, while .his> condition also shows considerable improvement since he raced at Ellersliei Like the majority of the defnnct Catmint's progeny, Catoma revels in heavy ground, and with every indication of such conditions prevailing at Avondale his prospects appear good. KoroMo'sPromise. Korokio, the winner of the Debutante Stakes at Wanganui, the first two-year-old race of the season, is an''Australian-bred youngster racing'in the same interests as her elder brother, Fernden; They are by Redfern, a high-priced Englislv importation who did not realise expectations, from Meriden', by Challenger .from Merry Widow, a Wallace mare, whose dam, La Cheville, is a half-sister to .Aura, the dam of Aurous, Aurum, • Auraria, Golden Knight, and Golden Slipper, and the ancestress of Desert Gold' and: Nigger Minstrel. .It is a. groat1 racing family, to which Korokio may bring more credit. She has not been nominated for many of the early set-weight races, and her next outing will probably. be' in the two-year-old handicaps at Trcntham. Sprinter or Stayer? ; King Colossus, who filled second place in the Debutante Stakes at Wanganui, and is now one of the fancies for the Avondale. Stakes qn Saturday, is bred mainly along speed lilies) but there are also collateral strains in' his pedigree suggesting possibilities of stamina, and his conformation would lead one to venture the opinion that he is going to stay. His sire, Colossus, is an imported horse by Polymelus, five times premier sire of England, from Nation, by Sunder, one of the many speedy galJopeM got by Sundridge, who Is best
known in New Zealand through the stud success of his son, Absurd. Ou the maternal side Nation traces . back to Galopin, a winner of the Derby and the sire of that great horse St." Simon. The dam of King Colossus, Queen Elizabeth, who is by Finland from the Royal Fusilier mare Sonnette, is a direct descendant of Yattondon and Stockwell, and from this source again there comes blood that is invaluable in tho make-up of a stayer. _ King Colossus is bred both ways, bill it is likely that he will he found doing bis best over distances beyond a sprint. Clash with Wellington. 'fltc dates chosen by the Dtmcdin Jockey Club for its 'special Bmicfit Mooting, 12th and 1-1 th March, mean a .clash with the Wellington Racing Club's Autumn Meeting, on 14th and 17th March, which usually lias strong attraction for Canterbury stables. Tho .overlapping of dates is regrettable, but it has been almost unavoidable. There is little doubt that the southern club will suffer more than Wellington, for tho larger stakes will draw Riccurton horses north. Odds and Ends. Nominations for the Otaki Maori Racing Club's Spring. Meeting close on IYidiiy at S p.m. ■ Nominations for all events, except Trial Stakes, at the Dunedin J.C.s Spring Meeting, close on Friday at 5 p.m. Nominations for the Napier Park Racing Club's Spring Meeting close on Friday at 8 p.m. Handicaps for ' the Auckland Racing Club s Spring Meeting are due to make then- appearance next Tuesday. It is stated that the profit on the Marton Jockey Clubs-Spring Meeting was between £400' and £500. ■ Opa.pulled up Jamo after contesting the GonviUc Hurdles at Wangaimi on Saturday The trouble appears to bo in a shoulder. . ■ ■ Gold Money is always a brilliant track worker, but she is moving exceptionally well at Jillersho. and there is 110 doubt about her class, especially-on-a soft track. fcea Lob, who is due' to make his initial appearance over hurdles at the Avondale Meeting, has been showing distinct promise m his schooling; tasks afc-Te Awamutu. He displays plenty of. confidence at his fences for a novice, and is a fast and clever jumper.
