ACROSS THE TASMAN
NEW ZEALAND'S. INVASION
In commenting on thergreat number of New Zealand horses ii; work'at Sydney, an Australiaii >paper says: Except for a possible unannounced visitor, the 'teams from New Zealapd have now all arrived for the spring campaign. And what an array of horseflesh-they make! With three exceptions, they, are located at Messrs. H. 'Chish'oim and Co?s stables' at Eandwick, where no fewer than 50" horses are
stabled, if the team, of the Sydney trainer, Fred: Williams,.!who. has permanent stabling therej may be taken into account, and it would, not be over-estimation to place the rvalue qf the thoroughbreds at £45,000. The proximity of the stables to Randwjck ra'cecoul-se is the principal, attraction, for nowadays it is difficult to Secure up-to-date conveniences so close to the'scene "of activity. The stables are primarily .for the housing of yearlings for the annual sales;) but as there are not any yearlings at this titoe of the year, therfuil. advantages, especially the sandyards and rolling yards, are there to be enjoyed by. the visiting horses. It is indeed a,busy locality, with the first indications of dawn each morning, and at other intervals-of the day. Yet there is not a semblance of congestion' or inconvenience. It is (in this way that the genial Bob; May, the manager of the stables, is at his best, for after the city staff has, arranged the details associated with the transport; and' landing of the horses—and- they aro something' to. conjure with, especially sin.cc the introduction of' the last Budget—May takes the reins of control, arranging for the needs of his patrons.
