Tho final of the United States women's national singles was played on Saturday, and was won by Miss Betty Nuthall. The first set was a walk-over for Miss Betty Nuthall, but spectators were treated to a spectacular rally by the Australian, Mrs. Sylvia Harper, in the second, when, with a series of dashing and effective plaecments from the forehand and mueli forcing of the English girl into errors, she ran up to a 4-2 lead. The"'■ Australian had already tired badly, however, and Miss Nuthall calmly pulled out to 5-2, although Mrs. Harper fought desperately to deuce the . last gama several times. She was unable to withstand the Englishwoman's hard stroking. The match lasted 36 mintites.
Miss Nnthall beat Mrs. Harper, 6-1, 6-4.
