PROPOSED OVERSEA TOUR
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., 23rd August.
A suggestion by Mr. J. Harris (Napier) that a sum of money be transferred to the account the object of which is to encourage amateur boxing, was made at the adjourned annual general meeting of the New Zealand Boxing Association this morningl, and after discussion it was decided that it be a recommendation that action be taken to further encourage amateur boxing in the Dominion.
In this connection it was announced at the meeting yesterday that as efforts to match the amateur champions against the Australian amateur team had failed, the council was negotiating with the South African authorities for a team of New Zealand amateurs to visit South Africa and meet the best amateurs. The council was doing its utmost to finalise the suggested tour, and it was felt that this would greatly encourage amateur boxers throughout the Dominion.
