WESTPORT, 23rd August. In fine weather, and before a large attendance, Buller, the holders of the Scddou Shield, to-day stalled off a determined challenge by Marlborough by 15 points to 3. . .
■ In the first spell Goodall scored an nnconverfed try and Lamont a try which Gilbert converted.
Both teams played with great vigour in the second spell, and Payne, from n free kick, goalcti for Jlarlboroiigh. Gilbert potted a goal for Buller, and G-rcei scored an unconverted try.
The Buller forwards were a great pack, dominating the game. Goodall . and M'Cabc were outstanding. In the backs, Seandrett and Jones were particularly sound.
The Marlborongh f6r.wiivds played a good sparkling game, the pick being Putchctt, Bothain, and Sathcrley, who were particularly prominent. In the back division Potete, Roberts, and Bnrtlutt were most noticeable.
Duller was undoubtedly the better team and gave v much more impressive display than against West Coast last week. -Mr. Empson (Christchurch) ably controlled the game.
