The weather was glorious for the greater part of the afternoon, but the concludmg stages of the game were played in a heavy fog which came up suddenly. The visitors were superior to the home side in all departments. They opened strongly, backs and forwards indulging in sweeping rushes which sorely tried the homo defence. The handling of the South Canterbury players was shocking, and the tackling weak.

Towards the end of the first spell South Canterbury brightened up and gave a much better display.

Otago led at the interval by 1G points to 5.

For_the first ten minutes of. the second half South Canterbury were in the .ascendancy, the backs throwing the ball about in pleasing style. The visitors also proved themselves great opportunists, scoring three or four runaway tries after South Canterbury attacks had broken down.

bouth Canterbury staged some brilliant rushes, but more often than not the efforts lacked finish.

, Tries were scored for the winners by ll'Skimming, JS Tiven, Giles, Proctor, and Fookes (3). Lindsay converted five and kicked two penalty goals. For South Canterbury Neutze, Phillips, Strang, and • D. Callanan scored tries, Strfing converting two.
