PERSONAL.

Mr. E. J. Wade, third engineer on the Aorangi, is on holiday leave, his place being taken by Mr. A. M'lntyre. Air. A. R. Faulds has joined the ship as fourth engineer.

Mr. M. Campbell has joined the Oplhl as chief engineer, relieving Mr. J. Stevenson for holiday leave.

Mr. A. G. Weld and Mr. R. D. Paul have joined tho Waiotapu as third and fourth engineers respectively, relieving Mr. C. V. Holder and Mr. A. Alexander for holidays.

NARBADA PASSES THURSDAY ISLAND.

The Narbara, en route from Calcutta for New Zealand ports, passed Thursday Island on Friday afternoon.

MAKURA FROM 'FRISCO,

The R.M.S. Makura, which left San Francisco on Bth August, arrived in the stream at 6.35 this morning, nd berthed at about 8.45 at No. 1 south Queen's Wharf to discharge passengers, mails, and cargo. Papeete was reached on 16th 'August and Karotonga two [jays later. About 10,00 cases of fruit were loaded at Rarotonga. Fine weather was experienced practically throughout the trip, the conditions early In the voyage being better than when approaching Wellington. Heavy rain commenced to fall last night.
