Mr. Vincent Ward, the newly-elected member for Invercargill, was sworn in as p. member of the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon and took his seat for the first time. Mr. H. Austad,'chairman of the council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, who is leaving Auckland by the Aorangi on Tuesday on a business trip overseas, was farewellerl last evening by the chairman (Mr. H. j Amos) at a meeting of the Olympic Games Council, of which he is also a I member. At a farewell, gathering at tho works of C. M. Banks, 'Ltd., Mr. J. E. Pereiv.al was the recipient of a chiming clock and gold-mounted pencp. Mr. Sando, who made the presentation, referred eulogistically to the loyal and able service rendered to the company during a period of twelve years by Mr. Percival, and after Messrs. Costello and Hart and Miss Bett had added their remarks, 'the recipient of the present made a suitable reply. -
