UPPER HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL
The Mayor (Mr. P. Robertson) presided over a meeting of the Upper Hutt Borough Council last uight. There were also present Councillors E. W. Cottle, C. L. A. Spearman, A. Howell, J. Blewman, W. Greig, M. H. Hood, G. H. Guthrie, and J. 0. Duff:
The secretary of the Upper Hutt Returned Soldiers' Association wrote suggesting that all future applicants for Poppy Day relief works interview him to provent men from outside districts obtaining the work.' To this the council replied that it did not intend to consult the association. Any specific complaint could be brought before the council.
A donation of £5 was made to the Trentham School Library.
A letter from the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board gave the arrangements made for the collection of consumers' accounts by the board's own collectors at the council's premises on certain days. The council approved of the arrangement, which is to be started from ]st September.
The Upper Hutt Municipal, Band was granted permission to hold a street day in the borough. Two ratepayers sent lettcys of thanks to the council for its decision not to change the name of Whitcman's A ralley road.
On the recommendation of tho consulting engineer (Mr. H. lr. Toogood) it was decided to allow a two months' extension of time to tho contractors for the water reticulation and the water hciulworks.
