THE COMPETITIONS
The 1930 festival of the Wellington Competitions Society will be officially opened on Saturday next at 8.15 p.m. by the Mayor (Mr. G. A. Troup), who is the society's patron. A start will be made with the judging in the morning and afternoon, so that the evening programme will be made up mainly of recalls. The Town Hall, ' Concert Chamber, and Nimnio's Hall will each be used daily, but the evening sessions will be held in the Town Hall. Competitors are coming from all over New Zealand to take part in this year's competitions, the entries numbering over 3000. A great deal of thought and hard work have been put. into the arrangements for the coming festival by members of the society, who are hoping for good, attendances of the public at all sessions in order that a good surplus profit may be made and devoted (as any festival profits regularly are) to the establishment of further scholarships in vocal and instrumental music and elocution. Six scholarships are now 'beings provided by the society, but after this year's competitions it is hoped to considerably increase that number.'
