CONVICTS ON DEVIL'S ISLAM* ' (Eeceived 18th August, 2 p.m.) , PARIS, 17th, August. Eleven men undergoing life sentence! recently escaped from the French penal settlement at Devil's Island, and managed to obtain a sailing boat. At the outset of their desperate bid for freedom . they sailed safely for sit days. Then a storm capsized the boat, and two men were immediately dragged down and killed by sharks. Tha others righted the boat and scrambled back. They have just reached Trinidad, but willnot be safe unless the Trench •authorities refrain from extradition, proceedings for thTCe months.
