MEMORIAL SERVICE
♦ LATE GENERAL SMITH-DORRIEN (Received 18th August, 8 a.m.) LONDON, 17th August. The King was represented by tho Duke of Connaught and nearly all living war leaders, and representatives of the Naval, Military, and Air Forces attended a momorial service at St. Peter's, Eaton square, to the late Sir Horace Sinith-Dorrien. Many ex-sorvico men were present, including members of the "Old Contemptibles' " Association, whose wreath of red poppies was in-! scribed with Sir Horace Sniith-Dorricn's' historic announcement at Le Cateau during the Mons retreat: "Gentlemen, we will fight."
