SOLAR ECLIPSE EXPEDITION

(To the Editor.) Sir,—-It seems a great pity that the New Zealand solar eclipse expedition 18 still in danger of not being able to go to Mina Fou for purposes of observation. The members were refused the amount promised by the last Government, and have been trying to get it by subscription. It is still £100 short before they can get to the island. Being scientists, the thing that matters is to get there; any old thing can. bring them back. Are there no two Wellington people who will give £50 each to make history for New Zealand?. The American expedition is no doubt wonderfully equipped, but the New Zealand may easily get better results with less equipment, the observations • being so delicate that luck enters into it to a great extent. If even four people m the whole of New Zealand would give £25, New Zealand can still make world history in science.—l am, etc., ALPHA.
