"TOTE" INVESTMENTS
XIHJGE DECBBASB SSie hug© decrease of £71,238 10g in last .veek'a totalisator investments was much greater than expected by the most pronounced pessimist. All meetings held thus taxly in the current racing season have fared in a similar manner to the Christohurch clubs, and as the season progresses it will become more apparent that a. number of the smaller racing clubs that hare had a big uphill fight to carry on in the past, will now be faced with a -greater problem to keep going. With a decline in the totalisator revenue, and - the proposed increase in the totalisator tax, it certainly appears as if the more fortunate racing clubs' will this season have to content themselves with little or no profit on the year's working. Tha totalisator turnover at Christchurch bet week (in parentheses) and the figures for the corresponding meetings held last jfaar at Eiccarton and Addington, are ' given, and make an interesting comparison. Klccarton: First day, £62,088 10s (£42,----988 10s); second day, £43,483 (£35,545); mr& day, £53,057 (£42,724); total, j£168,626 10s ( £ 120,834 10s). Addington: First day, £34,610 (£23,421); ifceond day, £49,720 10s (£37,158 10s); , .fiird day, £80,294 (JE4O.SS&)* total, £134,-
