ASSOCIATION'S REVIEW

Tlip annual leport and b.tlanec-^licct of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, which will be presented to the meeting of the council on 2911 i August, icviews the year's activities. The Dominion ranking list, compiled on the past year's performances, is listed us> follows:— ■

Kicholls; Mrs. W. .TMelody; Miss M. Macfarlano; Miss 11. Myers; Mrs. R. P. Adams: Misses M. Andrew, M. Wake, and M. Whyte (bracketed); Mrs.-W. A. Scott; Miss B. Knight. The report states that lliero are now twenty associations affiliated with the parent body, with, an estimated total mem-; bership of 28,660. . For the first time m tho history of the, association,' says the report, the annual New Zealand tournament had been held after the New Year holidays, and as a result the entries were small, and, notwithstanding favourable weather and suitable seating accommodation, the attendance of the y public had been smaller than; at any New Zealand championships during the past eleven years. The total entries for all events jhad been 197 compared with 245 for "the'previous year. , : Dealing withjjunior tennis, the report says-that, a few of the affiliated associai tions had -conducted tournaments with great success, and in other districts tournament play had been encouraged, though' the efforts of tho.Hawkes Jtiay and Poverty Bay Associations had' not received the support they deserved. - The committee believed that tho majority of tl\c affiliated associations . were endeavouring to foster junior tennis.- and there was every indication that the lime was now ripe for proper-Organisation on a national basis. ; The statement of accounts presented, with the report shows a profit ot £01 2s 7d for the year-.
