TABLES TURNED
Auckland suffer defeat , AUCKLAND, 16th August. A' great recovery in the second half allowed North Auckland to beat Auckland in a game played at Eden Park this afternoon.* Auckland had easily the belter of the game in the first spell, and led by 11 points to nil at half-tune. In the second spell, the Auckland inside backs could not stand up to the battering by the visiting forwards, and North Auckland clapped on 22 points while Auckland failed to add to its score.:, . . The ground was fairly heavy, and .ram. fell at intervals throughout the game. The Auckland backs showed more initiative in the first spell, but ■in -''the ■ second thetr. attempts at passing were .frustrated bythe North Auckland forwards. iFrom nearly every scrum Gonway attempted to put the "backs in action, but, his passes .were wild, and the visiting forwards {turned this' fact to good advantage. The defence of the Auckland inside backs was weak, and North Auckland-dominated the play m the second spell to win'easily. ' '- ; iln the first'- epell Oouper: scored, two tries for Auckland,'aitd: Batty also scored' from a quick throw-in. . Camniick converted Coup'erV first-try. ■•■'■■' • North Auckland opened its account shortly after the interval, when Kenpotted a neat goal. Then from a sweeping forward\rush Fletcher ■scored an un-converted-try, and shortly after paved the ,W|»y for. a try by Albert. North Auckland ;to attack, and a weak clearing kick wa^s taken by Sherriff, who dived across to put his side,in the lead. Kerr converted. Barely had play recommenced when Kerr. potted* another fine goal, and/ shortly after Evans sent out on the blind side to Hanson, who found1 gaps in-the, Auckland defence to score a fine try. Auckland, made desperate .efforts .in the final stages, but were unsuccessful. For North Auckland^ Kerr played a fine game at full-back, and Fletcher and Sherriff were outstanding in ,a good pack. The Auckland forwards fell away badly in the second spell, and bad defence by the inside backs allowed' North Auckland to1* assert aY definite superiority. Apart from one : mistake, when . he; we;nt for a high tackle, Butler played a good game at full-back.; ; ■ :.. • -• \ ; •. Mr, F. E." Sutherland was referee. ■< '
