RTJGBY, 15th August. _ Martial law has been proclaimed in the Peshawar district by the Viceroy of India. In a. personal explanatory statement the Viceroy says that while the Ordinance empowers the Commander of the Northern Army to administer it, that officer intends immediately to delegate his powers to the Chief Commissioner.' The Viceroy states that he has taken the step on the representations of the local civil and military authorities.
