PETONE SHOPPING MONTH

■ MuL-h public interest is being taken in Petone's shopping month. A window dressing competition was held' on Thursday, and was won by the Gear Co.'s No. 2 shop, with Liebezeit's Novelty Store second, and the Oriental Fruit Shop third. The displays of Carey's Drapery Store and of George and George's were highly commended. In the smaller classes of shops the winner was Whitford's clothing shop. V. L. Hay's jewellery shop was second, and Grant's sweet shop third. Henderson's dairy and T. Waugh and Son were highly commended. A fancy dress procession was held in Jackson street on Thursday night, aud prizes were won by. Phil Burborough (Dragon), 1; Mollie Trower (New Zealand Flag), 2; Ethel Rainsford (Kate Greenaway), 3; and Robert Stewart (Mephistopheles), 4. A special prize was awarded to J. Weatherley, who represented an old woman.

The result of the baby show held; yesterday is as ■ follows:—Girls, under 6 months, Enid Martin, 1; Dorothy Capes, 2. Boys, under 6 months, Gordon Jonassen, 1; Desmond Marris, 2. Girls, 6to 12 months, Alice Patten, 1; Lila Booth, 2. Boys, 6 to 12 months, Ronald Hepple, 1; Bill Alington, 2. The "champion of champions" was Enid Martin.
