PRICE OF BREAD.
INTERESTING COMPARISONS. The argument that bread prices could bo reduced if wheat could be imported duty free is not supported by the- following figures giving the cash price of the 2Jb loaf in the United States, Canada, and Australia (the greatest wheatprodiicing countries, where all the cheap wheat supplies are): — d. New, York 8 Chicago 0} Toronto 64 Winnipeg 8~ Sydney (City) 5 Sydney (Suburbs) 5J Melbourne (City) 5 to 5| Melbourne (Suburbs) 5J The figures quoted abovo are standard prices received by cable recently. In certain localities in Sydney standard prices are subject to 'price-cutting. The same, however, applies to certain parts of Now Zealand.
