MEAT EXPORT CONTROL
FARMERS AND ACT
THE BOARD'S CONSTITUTION
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
MASTEETON, 14th August
"That this executive of the Farmers' Union cannot see its. way to support Mr. W. D. Lysnar's proposed amendment to the Meat Export Control Act," was tho text of a resolution passed at a meeting of the Wairarapa provincial executive of the Farmers' Union to-day.
Mr. W. Perry, a member of the Meat Control Board, said that as far as the present board was constituted tho main point was that they were against Government appointees. As to making freezing corqpanies sell out, ho thought that this was an impossible proposition. At present there were two or three overseas companies with works in New Zealand, but the Government had power to stop them from taking up interests in New. Zealand in the first place. These large interests, however, were a tremendous safeguard, as it was to their interests to keep the market up at Home; it would not pay them to let prices get low. As long as tho big interests were prevented from getting too much control of the market the position was good. Mr. Ross said that he was in favour of a more equitable representation on the board. Neither Mr. Perry nor Mr. Ross had anything "but good to say of the present Government nominees,; whom Mr. Perry eulogised, but they thought that the Government should" have no say in tho matter. •
