Teams from iho Working Men's Club and Wadostown contested their, aunuul mutch on Saturday1 evening at the rooms of tlio Wellington Working JMen's Club and Literary Institute, the home team winning by two games (7-5). In the unavoidable absence of the president and Vice-president a whole-hearted welcome was extended to the visitors by Mt. A. E. Ballavd, who voiced the general desire that the contest would be a keen one, and that the various Ramos would be stubbornly contested and prove both interesting and instructive. (Applause.) Mr. A. J, George (president) returned thairks on behalf of the Wadestown Club, and endorsed the hope that the players would give of their best. Chess was a great contrast to the game of Rugby football that had been so much in evidence during the afternoon, but he felt sure that all taking part in this annual fixture would spend a most enjoyable : evening together. (Applause.) The Working Men's Club's representatives made'the better tally at the first six boards (5-1), and they thus score a point in the senior team's tourney of the Wellington Chess-League. It should be mentioned that the Wadestown Club was handicapped by the fact that Mr. D. Poole, who-formerly played with success at board 1 for South Taranaki, was too unwell to take part in this match. The Wadestown Club made the better showing at the second six boards (7 to 12 inclusive), and thus get a point in' the league's junior teams' competition. The full score was as follows: — W..U flub.
