■ The total.number of arrivals in. New ■Zealand from the United Kingdom and Ireland during the year ended olst March, 1930, was 33(59 (17(53 males and 1606 females). Our, of this total number of. persons arriving 171)0 with assisted ,to Now Zealand by the .Imperial and ,New Zealand Governments. The annual report of the Immigration Department states that having full Uegard to the present difficult economic and industrial conditions and tho provalence of unemployment existing in the Dominion, the Government decided that the restrictions that. . have been placed upon assisted migration during the past two years must continue. The restricted policy is therefore to remain in force until such time as there is improvement in the present situation. The report shows that- of the 1790 assisted-immigrants who arrived in New Zealand/during the year 558 went to Auckland,. -218 to Canterbury, 64 to Hawke's Bay, 10.to Marlborough, 86 to Nelson, 113 to Otago, 37 to Southland,----53 td Taranaki, 545 to "Wellington, and 106 ■- to ".West-land. There were 47;! men, 707 wonicn, and 610 children. Of tho domestics, 50-went to Auckland, 17 to. Canterbury,' 6to Hawkes 8ay,.2 to Nelson, 8,-to Otago, 4to Taranaki, S7 to v Wellington','and fi to Westland.
