AUSTRALIAN DAIRY HERDS.
The value of the raw material furnished by the dairy cow of Australia and the products derived therefrom far exceeded the value of the production of any other rural industry, in the Commonwealth; £33,000,000 has' been invested iv _ the dairying industry. The latest Census showed that there were 2,422,674 dairy cows in the Commonwealth, which, at an approximate value of £10 a head, represented an investment of £24,220,740. These cows produce milk to the extent of 803,000,000 gallons, weighing 3,500,000 tons, which is nearly 1.000,000,000,0001b more in wei»ht than Australia's wheat production, and 6,000,000,0001b more than its won] production.
