MOTOR HIRE-PURCHASE
BLOW TO THE SYSTEM
• CAPE TOWN. 9th August. It is reported that the Government lias decided that criminal proceedings will not ■be instituted after December against people disposing of motor-ears before they have completed their hire purchase payments. . . . It is pointed out much of the present depression is due to people having no money except for instalments for motors, the traders of which should not have a prior claim over other creditors. Eighty per cent, of cars are being sold on the hire purchase system. Ministers in recent speeches gave attention to the excessive number of motorists in comparison with income tax payers. The trade regards the Government's mction as a tremendous blow.
