CONSIDERABLE ANXIETY

OPERATION EEFUSED

ROME, 7th August. The Central News Agency says the condition of tho Pope's health is giving anxiety. A doctor visits him twice a day, but the Pope has thus far refused an operation, which physicians consider necessary.

A Vatican communique issued five weeks ago stated that a famous French surgeon had been specially summoned to Rome and had diagnosed that tho Pope was suffering from slight tumour. An operation was regarded as unnecessary then, but tho Pope was undergoing a special cure and had been ordered to work less strenuously. .
