SHOWERY WEATHER

AN UNEXPECTED CHANGE

Yesterday's weather was dull and showery in western districts, with westerly winds prevailing, but in eastern districts the weather was mainly fair. This morning strong westerly winds were- prevalent in the northernmost districts, but elsewhere winds were more- variable. This was duo to the development of a moderate cyclone to the west of Farewell Spit, one of those sudden changes in tlio imeteorological situation which upset all forecasts. There is another cyclone developing over the south-west' Tasman Sea. This new development of low prcssuro west of Farewell Spit caused a change last night to cloudy and misty weather, and rain was fairly general over the North Island, extending this morning to some isolated places on the East Coast of the South Island.

Auckland had unsettled and showery weather yesterday, and the rain which fell during the night was heavy. Wellington enjoyed a flno and pleasant day, what little wind there was being from the north. During the night six points of rain fell. A mild and springlike day was experienced in Christchurch also, but it clouded over last night and one point of rain was recorded. Although flue in the early morning in Dunedin yesterday, conditions were not so pleasant later. It clouded over and somo showers foil.

Moderate to strong north-westerly winds ;u"e forecasted for districts from Knwhia and East Cape northward; olsewliore winds will bo moderate and move variable. Unsettled, cloudy, and misty weather, with variable rains, mny bo expected in most districts, falls being Heavy in a few localities.
