CARLTON'S; PACE IN RUGBY
Australia's sprint champion, J. Carltou, is playing Eugby this.season with the Kaudwiek senior team in Sydney, and his performances have been most impressive. Ho has shown that he has more than hisigreat speed to recommend him, and •is spoken of as standing a chance of going far in the Bugby game. I Playing on the other wing in the • Eandwick team is Owen Crossman, and an Australian writer says that it is doubtful it' a Bugby team ever possessed two wingers with the pace of ..Carlton and Crossman. The writer adds: "Carlton is faster than anyone who has figured in that position, and the men of pace in the past did not have a colleague on the other wing with the speed of Orossman. Barker had as a contemporary the Queonslander, C. W. Boe, and at another period Vie. Futter, and there were other instances of both wings being sprinters of class, but they were not jointly the equals of tlio Bandwick pair, who in a relay against any two thrco-'quartcrs from one; club would probably win handsomely. \ Both Carlton and Crossman have been doing well in the matter of tries. On a. rocent Saturday Crossman scored five and Carlton. three.
