(By Telegraph.) (Special to "Tho Evening Post.") PALMERSTON N., This Day. After fifteen rounds full of fast fighting, Referee F. O'Neill crowned Pete Sarron after his bout with Johnny Leckie at the Opera House last night. Sarron' adopted forcing tactics and took the fight to his opponent in most of the rounds, though Leckio at times fought-him. off,.!, "with, straight lefts. In the fourth Ground Leekie was down .for seven,- but he ..was. not badly, hurt, and took his time.- lJp ; to the fifth Sarron was in the lead,-though both had been boxing cleverly. lii. the sixth and seventh Leekie was seen to advantage, being clever with head and foot work. In the eighth Sarron went for his man, and there were some fast exchanges, but Leekie had to submit to some heavy punishment. In the ninth Sarron dodged punishment by clever ducking, and in the tenth he again opened out, and towards tho finish rattled Leekie.. , The eleventh was quieter, and in the ; twelfth Leekie made Sarron give ground with a succession of rights and lefts. The thirteenth was quiet, and Sarrou was the best of the fourteenth. In the last round Sarron went out after his opponent, but Leekie was eager to mis it, and the round ended with both boxers going full tilt. The decision was well received. AMATEUR FINALS. The finals of the Manawatu amateur championships were fought as preliminaries to the big bout. Results are as follow :— •Feather-weight: T. J. Holdeu (Pahiatua), 5.13, beat B. Carnell (Palmerston), 8.8, by a technical knock-out in the second round. Light-weight: A. Karten (Palmerston), 10.0 beat M. Candy (Palmerston), 10.0. Middleweight: Jacobs (Rongotea), 11.3, beat Ford (Palmerston), 11.0. This was a lively bout, and the decision received a mixed reception. . Heavy-weight: J. Cossill (Palmerston), 11.10, beat L. M'Kay (Palmerston), 12.0. The winners will represent Manawatu at the New Zealand championships to be held in Palmerston on 21st, 22nd v and 23rd August.
