FIVE-A-SIDE TOURNEY

TOWN V. COUNTRY MATCHES

Tho Management Committee of the Wellington Hockey Association decided last evening to conduct a five-a-side tournament at Karori Park on 23rd August for the senior B and junior grades. It was stated that the competitions in those grades would be completed on one more playing Saturday.

It was also decided to play Town v. Country matches in all grades except senior A on. 30th August, Hutt, Petone, and Karori to be' regarded as country clubs for tho purpose of the matches. Selectors were appointed as follow: —Senior B, Mr. W. Purves; junior, Messrs. C. Whyto and J. W. Russell; third, ■ Messrs. 8..-Cairns-Lee and A. Kirk; intermediate, Mr. J. L. M'Alistcr.

Efforts are to be made to arrange for a Wanganui junior team to play the Wellington intermediate representatives at Wellington on Gth September. Delegates expressed themselves strongly regarding the ban placed on tho playing of school games ou city reserves on Saturday mornings. It was decided to form a deputation to the Eeserves Committee of the City Council at an early date. Nominations arc to be called lor from clubs of senior A and B players available to play at Wangauui and Eltham early in September. The chairman. (Mr. S. B. Browne) said that, both Wanganui and Taranaki were anxious to have visits irom a Wellington representative team. All men's hockey will be postponed on Saturday in view of the Rugby lest match.
