HUNTING CALL'S LATE APPEARANCE

While backers were piling in their money on Hunting Call to the tune o£ 5644 tickets in the Kia Ora Handicap on Saturday, H.;'Gray was waiting quietly in the enclosure with iio:sign of his mount. Hunting Call had broken away from his attendant, broken -his bridle, and careered round the paddock/ being pulled up at the gate. It being the last race of the day, borrowing a; bridle presented some difficulty/ but it last the three-year-old made his appearance, and- he was cantered to the post jnst on totalisator closing time. His escapade must have placed him on his mettle, for he was always one of the leading division and won easily.. Blue Paper showed her customary speed, but had had enough at the finish. At the same' time she was ' well clear of the consistent Coon Song, who was anchored this time by 10.12. Portray finished just out of fourth place, bo that the form of Hunting Call, Portray, and Coon Song was consistent, for Hunting Call was meeting Coon Song' oh 281b and Portray on 181b better terms, as compared with the opening .day. Crash showed plenty of pace for half a mile and for racing on a firmer track he is worth, remembering. Rasouli finished on well into fourth place.
