A False Price. For Some reason both' Ai- Force and High Society were better backed than Zippor of the five runners in the Whakattt Hurdles. Purseful showed the' way to Zippor, with High Society, Air" Force, and Whakane following ft<r a mile and a quarter! Zippor and Air Force closed on Purseful at the second last . fence, and Zippor'was well clear at the last, coming on to win pulling up by six lengths from Pursetul, who beat off Air Force by half a length. High Society was a poor fourth. • Zippor is not an accomplished fencer yet, for he screws over the, obstacles. He was much too good for this field. Purseful gave a fair display for a nonce, but Air.Force was disappointing and showed Tittle ...determination. . Whakaue and High Society need somo experience yet over fences. A Boring Finish. Winlock was. an odds on favourite for the Kidnappers Hack Handicap, but an- . other double-figure winner rolled home in livening Hero after the favourite had carried him out past the centre of the course. Lady Lucerne and Royal Songster jumped out first,, but Winlock was also smartly away, and this trio showed the way down the back-to King Manu, Brown Sugar, and Hystride. Brown Sugar and Evening Hero raced up round the top, and at. the turn Winlock and Brown Sugar just led Royal Songster, Evening Hero, and King Manu. Evening Hero raced up on the outside as they straightened up, and Winlock bored out from the rails and met * him.. Winlock carried Evening Hero right 'out, but the latter finished on too well and beat her by half a length. King Manu was!, a length away third, with Hystride fourth, and Wedding Bells, Royal Songster, and Barracouta were^ nest. Evening Hero registered a good performance, for he had to race round his field and then fight off the attentions of Winloch. The favourite had every chance but met one too good. King Manu ran a fair race. Hystride also shaped well. Wedding Bells finished up behind the placed horse* after having' a bad run early. Royal Songster is an improver. Lord like Responds to Vigorous Handling. Arrowhead was seized on as the best proposition in<the Hastings Handicap yesterday, but failed to obtain a place, Lordlike standing up to vigorous handling and coming away to win easily at good odds. Primas was slow away, and Taranto, Keen, Lqrdlike, and Arrowhead led. down the back from Arrowzone and High Heather. Taranto and Lordlikc "led from Keen, Arrowhead, and High Heather, with three furlongs to go, with Potoaform moving up- Taranto was holding Lordlike as they turned for home, but Lordlike, under the whip, forged ahead to win convincingly at the finish by a length and a half from Taranto, who beat Keen by a head. Potoaform was right up fourth, and Arrowhead, Brown, Sugar, and Shortly were next. Lordlike responded well to energetic handling, and it was a pleasing effort. He should soon score again. Taranto will be improved by the race, and Keen should soon do better. Shortly will be none the worse for his outing. Highland Blystery dislocated a fetlock in runniug and was destroyed. • ,
