BEST FRIEND IN REALITY
FAVOURITE SCORES EASILY
(By .Telegraph, from "Vedette.")
The position o£ H. Gray as the rider "of Best Friend in the Winter Handicap at Hastings yesterday was sufficient to ensure his favouritism, but the price was short. At no stage would his backers have been anxious, for he was always on the bit, and won as he liked, Whakaari was first out from Best Friend, Royal Court, and Adventus. At the six-furlong post Tahoma rushed into the lead from Whakaari and Grattus, with Best Friend next, and Ad-\-entus, Royal Court, and Mothplane following. Whakaari, Tahoma, and Grattus led to the turn from Best Friend and Adventus. Best Friend came through a furlong from home to win very easily by two lengths. Adveutus got up to beat Whakaari by half a head for second, with Tahoma and Mothplane right up fourth, and Grattus and Courageous next. Best Friend was always well placed, and scored in a mfinner suggesting several victories yet before the handicapper gets his measure. Adventus finished well, but Whakaari should have been second, for he was badly ridden. Tahoma and Grattus ran good races, and'Mothplane and Courageous finished well from some distance back. .■">...
