ELLERSLIE TRAINING NOTES

(By Telegraph.)

(Special to "The Even.no Post.") AUCKLAND, This Day

The features of, the schooling work at Ellerslie this morning were the brilliant jumping of Ponjola, Omeo, and Kameluimeha over the steeplechase fences, and a pleasing display by Elysianor over the hurdles.

The others to jump well were the hack hurdlers, Taumai, Sir Archie, and Kairuri, Taumai giving a very dashing exhibition. As a result of his brilliant "school" he has advanced in favour for the Grout Northern Steeplechase, while Omeo's prospects have become somewhat clouded on account of a mishap. Omeo cut his off stifle when jumping this morning, and the injury is serious-enough to cause misgivings, for it is rather deep and is not in a good place. Kameharaeha's exhibition attracted more than passing notice, and as he has betni working solidly he might make a bold showing if caught in a generous mood when the Great Northern Steeplechase is decided, although he did not jump _ as fast as Elysianor, whose fencing was right up to his best standard.

King's Jest created a good impression and he pleased by running on strongly alongside his companion at the finish. If he had had more experience, King's Jest would probably be the actual favourite for. the Great Northern Hurdles. As it is, he is strongly fancied, and though it is a difficult task to set a recent recruit to the ranks of jumpers, he promises to make a solid showing.
