UNEMPLOYMENT
CABINET COMMITTEE
A committee of momb'ers of the^ Cabinet has been set up by the Government, similar in personnel to that of last year,, to deal with unemployment matters. The Minister of Lands (the ' Hon. E. A. Ransom) is chairman, and the other members are the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. W. B. Tavorner) and the Minister of Labour (the Hon. S. G. Smith). j In making an announcement to this effect last night,; the Prime Minister (the Hon. G. "VY, Forbes) said it .would be the duty of the committee to expedite the1 prosecution of tho relief works that had been approved and to deal with additional schemes as they were put in ' hand. Complete unemployment statistics would be furnished to the committee, which ■■would do its best to relieve" the situatior. A good deal of preliminary work had been done concerning public works and planting operations, and it was expected that quite a number of additional men would be absorbel in the near future.
