VAN STRIKES POLE

DANGEROUS DRIVING CHARGE

A plea of not guilty was , entered by Geoffrey W. Gill before Mr. W. H. Woodward, 'S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday, when he was charged with having driven a motor-van on Ist March last in a manner dangerous to the public. The defendant was driving the van in a .northerly direction towards Karaka Bay when hfe met a car driven by Miss Alder Lehane Marris, which, according to his statement, was being driven along in the centre of the road. To avoid this - car, defendant contended that he had to swing across to his wrong side, and in doing so passed the car, but struck a telegraph pole, breaking it in two. After several witnesses had given evidence, Sub-Inspector C. W. Lopdell ; said that he still had a witness to call, so the case was adjourned until Friday at 2.15 p-m. Mr. C. A. L. Treadwell appeared for defendant. - -
