NELSON, 26th May.
Week-end sports were favoured by perfect weather condition^, Eugby football results were as follows:—Senior: Nelson 15, Rival 6; Old Boys 14, Wakatu 0; Pirate 16, Waimea 13. Junior: Rover 8, Nelson 4; Wakatu S, Old Boys 3; Waimea 14, Pirato 3. Third class:. Nelson 23, Rival G. In'the hockey championship competitions, Kiwi beat Federal by three goals to two^ Wakatu beat V.M.C.A. by six to three, and Wainiai beat Moutere by sis to one. In the ladies' matches Kia Ora A drew with Rewa, 2 all; and Kia Ora B beat Moutere by one goal to nil. Thistlo easily defeated V.M.C.A. by 9 goals to nil at Association football.
A fire occurred in a drying shctl at the Nolson Brick and Pottery Works early on Sunday, morning. The Nelson ]?iro Brigade got the flames under control before much damago was done. Samuel Robert Wiliam Smith was seutenecd by Justices of the Peace at Takaka to fourteen days' imprisonment for false pretences.
