PETONE SPEEDS AGAIN
LOCAL RESTRICTION SIGNS
The speed limits within the Borough of Petone have been the subject of much controversy and are likely to cause i still further argument, according'to a decision reached by the Borough Council' last night.!:- ■--•' • ■' ■ . . . .
A communication was received from the Commissioner of Transport, asking that the old local speed limit signs be removed, as the speed limits were fixed by the Government, restrictions.
The Borough Solicitor (Mr. R. E. Harding) -stated that, he considered. the borough had the power, to keep its signs until"its speed restrictions were proved to be jnvalid. It "would be a mistake to remove the signs, as it would be exceedingly' difficult to'have them put, back again. ' . ' . . ■' . . - It was decided to take no action in the matter, but the Commissioner of Transport is to be informed that he may take whatever, steps1 .he thinks fit to test the validity of the borough bylaws. . .
