MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Police cases in the Magistrate s Court today were dealt with by' Mr. E. Page, fc>..U. One statutory first offender for drunken-ness-was convicted and discharged. A remand until to-morrow was granted in the case of John O'Donnell, an old age pensioner, who is charged with indecently assaulting a young girl aged 10. Two seamen, Frank Henry Purdocs aged '22, and John ■James Mitchell, aged 23, admitted deserting from "the Rangitiki at Wellington. They were each ordered to pay costs, £2 10s; in default fourteen days' imprisonment. • ''■He is well known to the police, said Detective-Sergeant Trieklebank, about John Henry Rogers, alias Harry Cooper, a labourer, aged ■ 21, who pleaded guilty to stealing bag and contents, valued at £1, and to assaulting a girl aged 12. The bag was taken from the Salvation Army Home, and the accused assaulted the girl by catching her by the leg* Remarking that the accused had a long list of previous convictions, the Magistrate sentenced him to imprisonment for three months on the first charge, and for two months on the second. The sentences are to be concurrent.
