' fV - ■ .< .-■'• A special meeting of the Miramax : (Branch, of the Women's Christian Temperance Union to celebrate "Peace Day" ■'.was held last week, when Mrs. K. M. jjvans, M.A., presided. The opening deyotions were followed by a special Peace Prayer, and by the reading of numerous individual sentence prayers. Mrs. Evans read a very instructive paper dealing with Mr. S. Levinson's, scheme for outlawing ■war, as explained to the union recently by, her sister, Miss Edger. The following ■resolutions were passed: (1) "This United Peace meeting desires to urge the Government to repeal''the compulsory clauses ,of the Defence Act." (2) "This meeting v affirms' the resolution passed at . the .W.C.T.U. Convention, 1930, that the present system of compulsory military training is the main cause of the existence of .the military spirit manifested "in the community, especially in the minds of the young, and constitutes the greatest hindrance to the cause of peace. It would • therefore urge its branches and its individual members to use all their influence and to work unceasingly for the abolition' of the same, and the institution of a system of compulsory physical training in its place." .
