TEST TRIAL TEAMS

DALLEY'S OMISSION

SURPRISE, IN THE SOUTH

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

CHEISTCHUBCH, This Day

Surprise has been caused by the noiir inclusion of W. .Dalley (Canterbury) as half-back, and, tho substitution .of Holden in that position. On tho form shown in the South Island trial match yesterday, Dalloy was the better, even when the greater help he'received from his hookers, Cottrelland Ilore, is discounted. Holden gave out sonic very erratic passes, and did not have the generalship of his. opponent in initiating attacks. Dalley's defence was. also better, and his omission from, the team for the final trial suggests that he may be more or less of. a certainty..for All Black honours, and that tho selectors havo adopted the procedure of trying out others on the chance that they may discover someone who has ability to oust tho Canterbury man from tho position. This may be the case also with one or two other positions. Though Palley played better than Holden yesterday, he was only in patches the famous Dalley of a couple of years ago. Corner, tho diminutive Auckland half, made the most of his opportunities in the North Island trial game, and the selectors have favoured him above Kilby (Wellington), who was at the end of the opposing scrum. Corner's Jack of weight, though compensated for by his gameness, is likely to detract from his valuo in an international match. ■■.'■." ' . '. .
