THE ISOLATION PERIOD'
(By Telegraph.) (Specal to "The Evening Post.")
AUCKLAND, This Day.
"During the greater part of the- past year the scarlet fever wards at Auckland Hospital have been crowded," states the annual report of the medical superintendent (Dr. C.E. Maguire). Dr. Maguire adds that the type of infection has fortunately been mild, and there have been few serious complications. ■ ' ; VNew Zealand is: one of the few countries wharc a regulation is in force making the- period of isolation in scarlet fever six weeks," says Dr. Maguirer "This is now quite out of date. It is recognised that iv cases of patients with no complications a. period of four weeks is- sufficient. The -extra two weeks' stay in hospital raises the average stay and is a considerable expenso to relatives and taxpayers." . ,
In nil; 434 cases of scarlet fever were treated during tlio twelve months./
