Major-General Sir A. H. liusgoll, off Hastings, who has been visiting tho1 South Island, returned to Wellington,' this morning.
Among the passengers on the Makurai is B. J. M'Naniara, one of the world'• foremost cyclists in six-day competitions. He has been on a visit to hi« parents in Australia, and is returning to America.

Mr. Vernon S. Smith, assistant general manager, and Mr.. M. Bleechmore, advertising manager of the Shell Company of Australia, arrived, in Wellington by the Makura for a brief visit in, tho interests of the company's business in New Zealand. • !.
Mr. C. E. Tasker, who has be. en promoted to tho position of postmaster at. friuikton Junction, was presented wit It a leather suit-case from the.Post Office-' Pastimes Club, and Mrs.' Tasker'with; a clock and rose bowl, at a'gathering' of 'tho Wellington Post Office staff. ,oa' tho eve of his departure. Tho presentation was made by Mr. J. M. M'liean,. Chief Postmaster, who spoke of tho valued service given by Mr. Tasker, who had also taken. an active part in .the social side of the Department. The staff, wished to congratulate him on his promotion to one of tho largest mail-rooms in the Dominion. Mr. Tasker joined tl/- service* in 1897. In 1925 he waa appointed mail agent on the San Francisco steamer, and he occupied that position up till the time of his new appointment to Frankton. In his capacity as mail agent, Mr. Tasker acted as commercial agent for the Railway and' Publicity' Departments.'',
