DIEGEL BEATS MITCHELL
ONE UP
(deceived 19th May, S a.m.)
LONDON, 18th May
Leo Diogel beat Abo Mitchell in a thirty-six hole- match at Moore Park for £500, 1 up. ■ ';
Neither Diegel nor Mitchell was at his best in the first half. There was a vast improvement in the second round, Mitchell was four down at the tenth, and the American seemed to have the match in hand, when Mitchell, by a superb display, won four of the next seven holes, and squared the match, with one hole to play. x Excitement was intense . when at the short 'eighteenth Mitchell placed a tee shot, seven feet from the flag. Diegel was thirty-five feet distant, but the unexpected happened, Diegel holing a putt from the other side of the green, while Mitchell missed.
