A NEW LEADER
(To tho Editor.)
Sir,—On Wednesday there will be a caucus of the United Party members to select a new lender. Of course, on the face of it, the Hon. G. 'W. Forbes should receive Ihe nomination, but there is another aspect of the question which should, and probably will, receive consideration. At the General Election in .1928 two strong Reform members lost their seat 3 —one, a Minister,; being defeated by Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, a former Reform member, and the other losing to Mr. W. J. Poison, the Dominion president of the Farmers' Union. These two men . were absolutely dissatisfied with the Administration under the, Hon.'J. G. Coates, and consequently opposed and defeated the. Reform candidates. Therefore an effort should be made by the United Party to bring these two men into the field, and if .possible give them seats in the Cabinet. In fact, the % personality of Mr. Poison and his work among the farmers of the Dominion should place him higher, and at the present time there appears to be no one more ,suitable to lead the party. He may ll°t "aye tne experience of other members, but to-day New Zealand needs more than anything else ii_ .leader with a strong personality.— I am, etc., . .
C. J. POWELL.
