At the first sale 10.758 bales were offered, including 3825 New Zealand.- Approximately G647 bales were sold. ; There was a miscellaneous selection of merinos, including many inferior lots, and a good average offering of New Zealand crossbreds. The sale was crowded with buyers representing all centres. A strong confident spirit prevailed and there was extremely brisk competition, both from Continental buyers and Yorkshire representatives. Merinos and greasy combing .sorts met ■with a strong demand at 10 per cent, above the March sales closing rates^ Best scoured lines were 10 per cent. up. Faulty lines showed an advance of 5 per cent. ; Crossbreds, all greasy wools, were fully 10 per cent, better, and scoured, wools were 7% to 10 per cent. up. Slipes advanced 7% per cent. Lambs, merinos, were 5 per cent, to 7% per cent, dearer. .Realisations were.—New Zealand greasy crossbreds, Bee ll%d to .lid, Omoko ll<;id to'lu%d, halfbend over Claxby lZVzd to :12d.
