A SOLDIER'S SOUVENIR
INQUIRY AFOOT
(By Telegraph.—Preßs Association.) PALMEESTON N., This Day. A German flag, somewhat age-worn and more or leas moth-eaten, was found at Kangiotu several weeks.-ago, .reports; the "Standard's" correspondent, It is stated that a member of the Samoan force who later joined the Eifle Brigade, which was in camp at Kaligiotu, smuggled tho flag back as a souvenir, and when he left for the front handed it to a Eangiotu resident for safe keeping. Tho soldier has not so far returned, and the Eangiotu resident recently passed away, believing that the. ilag might bo the historic one taken down from German headquarters at Samoa. It is asserted that the soldier owning it claimed'that it was. lielatives .of ■"ie Eangiotu resident had it handed .over to the local E.S.A., who aro making inquiries. An examination of the flag shows that it is the worse for wear and frayed at tho edges. It has not thp eagle crest, and may have been the property of a private German resident/ and not the flag it is claimed to be.
