TROOPS CALLED OUT
POUCE FIRE ON MOB DELHI, 17th April. Fierco riotiug occurred at Karachi during the trial of six Nationalists and Congress leaders who were charged with violation of the salt laws. A ,niob of ten thousand, the majority of whom were members of workers' unions, wrecked the Court and then attacked motor-ears : and trams and stoned the occupants, many being injured. Police baton charges proving futile, they opened fire, wounding nine rioters, one fatally. Ths crowds were not dispersed tillj British troops were .called and restored order. ■ , ' . , A- general strike of scavengers and dock workers has been proclaimed as a protest against the trial of the leaders. The situation in Calcutta is now under control, and strong forces of armed mounted police are patrolling the streets in the Indian quarter. Police were stoned in Poona by a crowd of demonstrators. against the conviction of Jawaharlal Nehru, the Congress leader.
